SANOG8 Roundup
August 6, 2006
Here is a summarized roundup for the entire SANOG8 event:
SANOG8 started on 27th August 2006 and ended on 4th August 2006. The first five days were reserved for the three workshops that were the essence of the event.
On 1st and 2nd August 2006 the event was lined up with info-packed tutorials that were thoughrougly enjoyed by the audience.
The Conference started on 3rd August with a Gala Dinner (sponsored by Cyber Internet Services). Black Fish performed at the dinner and it was a nicely done program.
The 3 workshops were:
- Routing by Philip Smith and Amante Alvaran
- Security by Yusuf Bhaiji and Gaurab Raj Upadhaya
- DNS /DNSSec by Bill Manning and Champika Wijayatunga.
About 11 Tutorials, and 15 presentations on the days of conference. We also had 5 BoFs, and in true BoF tradition – at least one of them was created right after the workshops were started. All in all, a great overall event from a program perspective.
We had about 200+ in attendance. The volunteers will get back to cleaning the registration lists in about a week or so, and we’ll have final numbers. But a quick calculation based on the hotel catering bill says we had well in over 1000 people eating lunch in over 9 days. 25 speakers from all over. A lot of engineers of Pakistani origin working everywhere in the world came to do tutorials and present, which was very exiting both for them and the local audience.
SANOG8 was officially closed on 4th August 2006. The IPv6 Forum’s Pakistan Chapter launch was scheduled on 5th August 2006 in Karachi. This event was also hosted by NSP and it proved to be equally successful with almost 70+ industry insiders.
